"Is solace anywhere more comforting than in the arms of a sister." Alice Walker
Mission: Solace for Sistas is a social and support network of Black and Brown women committed to human and civil rights, and social and criminal justice advocacy and activities.
Catalyst: Solace for Sistas is the brainchild of criminal justice reform advocate Angelyn C. Frazer-Giles. She and her colleague, Nkechi Taifa, had a mutual friend who was confronted with a challenging situation. On February, 27, 2007, they brought her flowers and a card in support and solace. From that gesture of kindness and compassion, the idea of creating a support network for Black women was born. In the winter of 2007, about a dozen women in the criminal justice field met for the first Solace lunch. As word of Solace grew, so did our network. Now, our membership includes women from a variety of disciplines.

People of color, particularly black people are facing health disparities and bias while managing the COVID-19 crisis. Below are a few articles about cases that remind us of the importance of advocating for ourselves and our families.
Rule OneWe do not berate or demean Black men.
"To be a black male is to be always at war, and no flight to the county can save us, because even there we are met by the assumption of violence, by the specter of who we might turn on next.” Ta-Nehisi Coates |
